COMPANY HISTORY

Over the years, the core products have changed but the core business has not. In 1884, Johann Heinrich Kulenkampff and Louis Konitzky started a worldwide wool trading business. The product shipped from all corners of the earth on the tall ship of the day to supply the fine cloth and carpet manufacturers of Europe.

Wool trading continued as the primary business until 1950 when the industrialization of Germany following World War II presented other opportunities. Machine tools, chain and wire rope products were added and quickly became the mainstays of the business.

April 1st, 1963 saw the opening of the first Kulkoni operation in the United States in Houston, Texas. This business was strategically started to take advantage of the wire rope experience by specializing in the lifting industry. The business flourished and, in 1992, Kulkoni began supplying brake cable, control cable and window regulators to the automobile industry.

In order to serve the lifting industry more efficiently and effectively, it was imperative for Kulkoni to also offer accessory products (hooks, shackles etc). The company searched the world for the highest quality and most cost effective foundries. In 1970, a very close working relationship was established with a forging plant in Japan. In 1980, two Korean manufacturers qualified as Kulkoni vendors. Kulkoni management started to travel extensively in China in the early nineties. A large number of Chinese producers were visited and only the best were selected as suppliers to Kulkoni.

True to form, Kulkoni recognized that it was on to something good (long before doing business in China became popular). In 2002, Kulkoni OEM Products (the forerunner to Precision Metals Inc.) was born with the intention of supplying other industries with the metal products made by its foundries in China.

Today, Kulkoni Precision Metals, Inc. offers value added metal products bought from the highest quality, most capable producers around the world. Industries we can serve include; automotive, heavy vehicle, engine, agricultural, defense, oil field, mining and earth moving.
